The Otorongo Lodge is located 2 Hours (by speed boat) from Iquitos Peru. For fishing, bird watching, hiking, or just sitting back and listening to the sounds of the jungle
It was an amazing experience for me to take a proffesional fisherman like Bill fishing Bill H. has been fishing all over South America for most of his life catching 20kilo peacock bass and whole lot more that I could hope to see in my lifetime. We went to Cocha Ayzana for two days, the first day he had only caught a big oscar fish, we had fun and decided to try our luck the next morning. We made it out there early and consulted the locals of Santa Rosa De Jatun Canyo. One local gave me the tip to use a buzz bait (but in some differnt words) I figured it was worth a shot. One 0of my first casts I had caught a nice size pacu (type of pirana) Bill hooked into a nice peacock but had lost it before we could get it in the boat. While Bill was untangling the"cats ass" from his reel, I took advantage and nailed one peacock close to some logs, it was about a 1.5 kilo fish. Moving on, Bill had a nice hit so he tossed it back in and the fish took hold. The bass ducked under a limb and the line went stiff. You could see the gas bubbles coming up from where the fish was moving the log. Bill gave it some slak and he came loose, He was a nice male about 2 kilos with his breeding hump on his forehead. We moved on to antother spot by a sunken log.. I had a Pavone peacock grind the gears of my cheap shakespear reel to the point I gave it too much slack and he got loose.TOO bad mabey next time.
